Community Care.
Creative Resistance.
Social Justice.

We believe change begins where community is centered — in the conversations we dare to have, the art we dare to make, and the people we dare to show up for. The Social Ish Starting Society exists to bridge the gap between advocacy and action.

"Where advocacy meets action and polite conversation gets left at the door."
✊🏽
Advocacy
We don't wait for permission to speak. We amplify marginalized voices, center social justice, and challenge the systems that keep communities underserved.
🎨
Creative Resistance
Art, writing, and storytelling are tools of liberation. We use creative practice as a vehicle for healing, truth-telling, and community empowerment.
🤝🏽
Community Care
Real change starts with showing up. From hygiene kits for Newark's unhoused community to educational programs for youth — we act locally and intentionally.

Community Care in Action

Showing Up for
Newark

We believe community care is not optional — it's a practice. Here's how we're meeting Newark where it is.

Society Self-Care Kits

We collect travel-size hygiene essentials — soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, lip balm, hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene products, wipes, and more — and assemble them into care kits for Newark's unhoused community. Every item donated is a reminder that dignity is not a luxury.

U R SEEN: Society Self-Care Sacks

More than a hygiene pack — a message. The U R SEEN initiative is about radical acknowledgment: that every person experiencing homelessness deserves to be seen and treated with dignity. Your donation is part of that message.

Items We're Collecting:
Soap • Body Wash • Deodorant • Toothbrush • Toothpaste • Lotion • Lip Balm • Hand Sanitizer • Wipes • Feminine Hygiene Products
Volunteer With Us

We need volunteers to help with kit sorting, community outreach, drop-off coordination, social media support, and more. No experience required — just a heart for your community and a willingness to show up.
